Where to eat in Piediluco — lakeside fish, ranked by a local

Piediluco does one thing at the table, and does it properly: lake fish, eaten metres from the water it came out of. Here’s what to order and where we’d book — ranked honestly.

What to order — the lake plate decoded

Carbonaretti — fillets of persico reale (perch) charred over open flame, dressed simply with oil, garlic and parsley. The dish to order first.
Coregone — the lake whitefish, roasted whole with lemon or shaved black truffle. Clean, mild, local.
Trout, eel and ciriole — the hand-rolled local pasta — round out a traditional menu.

Order the lake, not the land, here: the kitchens are metres from the boats. It is a genuine local tradition, not a tourist act.

Ristorante Miralago — the classic lakeshore address by the beach: traditional Umbrian primi plus lake and meat dishes, attached to Hotel Miralago. Tel 0744 360022.

Ara Marina — a lakefront terrace over a lawn to the water; the location is the star, the menu is fish. Closed Mon–Tue. (3.9/5 on TripAdvisor.)

Trattoria Teresa — the old-school village trattoria: baked coregone and smoked-trout territory, no frills. (TripAdvisor.)

Molo21 — beach club with pool, restaurant and pizzeria; the family beach-day option, seasonal. (3.9/5 on TripAdvisor.)

Caffè del Colle — the bar that holds the village together: breakfast, gelato, 50-plus gins and a lakeside aperitivo. Start or end the day here.

Booking reality

In July and August, and on any release-evening weekend, the lakefront tables fill — book ahead, especially for a terrace at sunset. Out of season, call the same day; several close Mon–Tue. Menus are short and change with the catch.
