Marmore Falls

Marmore Falls has two separate entrances about a 10-minute drive apart, and satnavs cheerfully deliver people to the wrong one every day of the summer. Thirty seconds here saves you the U-turn.
The two entrances, plainly

Our default advice: start at the Lower. The full-height view is the one you came for, and Trail 1 – the best walk – climbs from this side. Do the Upper afterwards via the shuttle or the drive.
Moving between the two
- Shuttle bus: €4, tickets online or on site (it runs seasonally – park FAQ). Queues build after big releases end.
- Driving: about 10 minutes up the hairpins – fine, but you’ll pay/park twice.
- On foot: Trail 1 connects them – up is a workout, down is knee-work. One good pattern: shuttle up, walk down.
When the car parks actually fill
On Ferragosto, Easter Monday, and the 25 April/1 May bridge weekends, everything fills – on record days the falls take 7,000–10,000 visitors and cars back up along the Valnerina road. On those dates: arrive before 10:00, or come for the late-afternoon window when the coach crowds have gone. Normal weekdays, even in July, parking is straightforward outside the release windows.
Arriving without a car
The best carless route is the Marmore Link – a single integrated Trenitalia ticket to “Cascata delle Marmore” that covers the train to Terni plus the connecting bus (urban line 7 or E621, roughly every 30 minutes, about 20 minutes’ ride). The E624 Terni–Marmore–Piediluco bus also stops at Marmore for the upper entrance, and a taxi from Terni station runs about 15–20 minutes (Radio Taxi Terni, +39 0744 300170 – agree the fare first). The tiny Marmore railway halt is close to the upper entrance but sees only a handful of trains a day – treat it as a curiosity, not a plan. Full carless options: from Rome and Umbria without a car.
Frequently asked questions
Which entrance is better at Marmore Falls?
Lower for the classic full-height view and the main trail; Upper for the top-of-the-falls sensation and the easiest walking. If you can only do one: Lower.
Does one ticket cover both entrances?
Yes – the ticket covers the whole park, both sides. The shuttle is the only extra.
Is there disabled parking/access?
Both entrances have parking, and the lower belvedere gives you the falls without the climb. Beyond the viewing areas the park is a steep gorge of stone steps, so access is limited – ask at the ticket office on the day for the current accessible route.
