Five days covers the whole southern catchment without hurrying: the falls-and-lake core, the full Valnerina, one great hill town, and a final day picked by appetite rather than obligation.

Days 1–3 — the core

Exactly as the three-day plan: falls at full release + Lovers’ Balcony; the lake day with the Labro sunset; the Valnerina day – river or e-bikes, mummies, Piermarini, the abbey.

Day 4 — one great hill town (pick one, don’t stack two)

Option A — Spoleto (35–40 min): the Duomo with Filippo Lippi’s frescoes, the Rocca, and the walk across the 80-metre Ponte delle Torri. During the Festival dei Due Mondi (late June–mid July) it’s one of Europe’s great cultural fortnights – and its beds vanish, which is precisely why basing in the valley works. Full guide: Spoleto.
Option B — Narni (30 min): the underground tour is the sleeper hit of the whole region – a frescoed rock church found through a hole in a wall in 1979, an Inquisition cell covered in coded graffiti. Weekends/holidays only, booked by phone – so this option chooses your day for you (Narni guide, including the real Narnia story).

Day 5 — by appetite

Adventure: the Grade IV rafting run under the falls (adults 18–55) + canyoning for the committed – then the hot tub administers the debrief. The menu.
Family: Umbria Activity Park’s high-ropes and zip lines at Scheggino, the free Urbani truffle museum next door, lake beach to finish. Scheggino day.
Culture: Carsulae – the grass-grown Roman town on the Via Flaminia – paired with San Gemini (and note your falls ticket includes Carsulae within 5 days: the combined-ticket trick).
Food & wine: La Palazzola’s organic winery above Stroncone for the near option, or the Montefalco Sagrantino run (~1 hr) for the famous one. The wine picture.
