The four authorised bathing points (2026 season)
The Comune di Terni’s 2026 bathing ordinance authorises swimming from 1 May to 30 September at four points (Umbria24, UmbriaON):

Note for 2026: the Ara Marina stretch is excluded this season while the works at the “Paolo d’Aloja” nautical centre are completed – if you knew it from previous years, pick one of the four above instead.
Is the water actually clean?
By the official numbers, yes. ARPA Umbria opened the 2026 season with the Umbrian bathing lakes – Piediluco included – in the “excellent” quality class, monitored monthly through the season (SNPA/ARPA). Legambiente’s independent Goletta dei Laghi testing in 2025 found all three of its Piediluco sampling points within legal limits (report). Lake swimming still means lake conditions – swim inside the authorised points, and respect the rowing lanes: this is the national squad’s training water.
The equipped beach — Spiaggia Miralago
For a proper beach day – loungers, umbrellas, a bar, and pedalo/canoe hire – the address is Spiaggia Miralago on Via Noceta, which is also where the lake tour boat departs (boats guide). There’s also Molo21, a beach club with pool and restaurant – seasonal, so check it’s open before building a day around it.
Practical notes
- Season: 1 May – 30 September. Outside those dates swimming isn’t authorised, whatever the weather says.
- Water temperature: a mountain-fed lake at 375 m – properly warm for most people only July–August; June and September are for the committed.
- Families: the equipped beach is the easy option – facilities, hire, and ice cream within retreating distance.
- Parking: tight on summer weekends, with a ZTL in the village – go early, or park at the edge and walk the lakefront.

Can you swim at Marmore Falls instead?
No – swimming at the falls is forbidden and dangerous. The lake, ten minutes up the road, is where you swim here – that’s the whole answer, expanded in where you can actually swim.
Is Lake Piediluco free to swim in?
The authorised public points are free; Spiaggia Miralago charges for loungers/umbrellas in the usual Italian beach-club way.
Are dogs allowed on the beaches?
